Wulingyuan - Area of Scenic And Historic Interest in China

Wulingyuan is one of China'smost prominent areas of natural beauty. This area of scenic andhistoric interest is located in Hunan Province in the southeastern area of China. It is known as the Wulingyuan Scenic And Historic Interest Area. It is a spectacular area stretching over more than 26,000 ha including - Zhangjiajie, the Tianzi Mountains, and Suoxi Valley..



Wulingyuan is remarkable for its quartzite sandstone pillars and peaks of karst formation. There are over 3,000 of naturally created sandstone pillars. Some of these sandstone pillars are amazingly high and measure over 800 meters tall. The scenic area comprises several national parks, one of which is the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The scenery of Wulingyuan is truly spectacular.



There are numerous ravines and gorges in between the pillars and peaks. Many of these ravines and gorges contain attractive streams, amazing pools and beautiful waterfalls. Wulingyuan has a number of karst features including some 40 caves with spectacular calcite deposits. Huanglong or Yellow Dragon Cave in this area of scenic interest is considered to be one of the largest caves in China.



There are two spectacular natural bridges in the scenic area of Wulingyuan. One is Xianrenqias (Bridge of the Immortals) and Tianqiashengkong (Bridge Across the Sky). It is situated 357 meters above the valley floor. It is probably the highest natural bridge in the world.
